I entitled my independent project, "A War Waged in Stone". In this project, I plan to talk about Paleontologists, Edward Drinker Cope, (of the Academy of Natural Sciences), and Othniel Charles Marsh, (of the Peabody Museum of Natural History). For a period of time in the 1880's - 1890's, they and their teams moved out west on the hunt for new spices of dinosaurs. They literally waged war against one another. They fired shots, burned down each others campsites, and even destroyed specimens if there was a chance they could get into the others' hands.I believe this is one of the most interesting, shocking, and crucial time in paleontological history.
